Hi everybody,

I have to apply a field stress in my 3D model (just a very simple field, something like s11=num1; s22=num2; s33=num3).

I used subroutine SIGINI and initially, the stresses are loaded o.k. The problem is that in the second step of the analysis (e.g. the first after INITIAL) the field stress change completely. I read that Abaqus starts de analysis forcing equilibrium, but doing that, the original field stress must change...so that stresses can't be considered true original stresses.

Is it possible to make an analysis starting with a field stress specified by user.

Thanks in advance.

geo2006,

Can you clarify the nature of initial stresses? If they are any type of residual stresses, then they would have to be in equilibrium.

yes, you're right. I see now that (obvious) it's ilogical to start an analysis with an unbalanced field stress. And what Abaqus do (force equilibrium in a geostatic step) is a good way to get things work.

Sorry for making lose your time.
Regards.
