Mates and varying surfaces

I have a need to check the clearances as a part rolls along a surface. It starts horizontal, runs along a 45 degree ramp, and finally there is a vertical section.

Is there a way to set up mates that will allow me to move the part along the ramp, so I can check for interferences? The only solution I can come up is to mate on a surface, check for clearances, remove that mate and go to the next surface.

Hello,

I guess the part moves along one surface, then moves along another surface?

If this is the case you can create different assembly configurations:

configuration 1 - unsuppress mate to surface 1, suppress mate to surface 2

configuration 2 - unsuppress mate to surface 2, suppress mate to surface 1

You can then move the part and check on stop at collision, or you can use a distance configuration and update the distance (this will move the part along).

Hope this helps.

cheers,

Joseph

JosephV: I think you have a very good solution. I had forgotten that mate groups can now be configuration sensitive. It is not as elegant as simply moving the part along the surfaces, but it will work very well.

Thanks.
