Max. dia. for the main sewer line + house connection

What is the maximum diameter of a main sewer pipe that a lateral sewer pipe (house connection pipe) can be connected? For example, is it possible a DN 200mm pipe, connect to DN 1600mm main sewer pipe?

Are there any standards for the max. pipe dia.?

200mm is quite large for a lateral to a house, I would recommend 100mm. Yes, a 200 could connect to a 1600, but you need to get a permit first to do this as this is a very large sewer. A 1600 sewer sounds like a regional interceptor and I would be surprised if they want individual laterals connected to it.

A residence is typically on a DN 100-150mm service.

The problem that you run into is that standard fittings are not readily availabe for the larger pipe diameters. A service connection would have to be installed using a chimney tap or some other connection. The chimney tap arrangement is expensive. The interceptors are usually much deeper as well. Again, it will be expensive.

Typically, the local sewer collection authority will not want service connections on the large diameter interceptors. Interceptors usually have the manholes farther apart and are installed with less slope than laterals
