For ASME piping standards, what is the max pressure of a 600# line at 400F?

Thanks for saving me some time.

hello Tom
Well, it depends on what material...
Please refer to ASME B16.5
Regards

The following examples reflect the ASME B16.5 flange limits. You also need to check ASME B16.34 and B31.3.

The material groups are among the key issues. The absolute highest is 1500 psig at 100 degree F based upon material group 1.2. I have never seen this scenario.

The highest that I have seen is 1480 at 100 degree F based upon material group 1.1. As an instrument engineer I frequently have type 316 stainless steel flanges connected to the piping system. Material group 2.2 drops the maximum to 1440 at 100 degree F. However the piping systems rarely operate at the optimum temperature. I have noted 100 degree F where the published range is -20 to 100 degree F. Typically a low temperature piping specification covers up to 300 degree F. This drops the maximump pressure to 1120 psig due to my type 316 stainless steel flange. If I were to accept type 304 then the pressure at 300 degree drops to 1075 psig.

And I plan to use an existing Coriolis Meter with Hastelloy C-276 flanges. That means that I must look up the ASTM or ASME designation for Hastelloy C-276 then check to determine which material group table applies.

I though that this was supposed to be an easy answer, didn't you?
