Does anyone know of a code or specification that shows the maximum gap or opening allowed in a floor before a trip hazard is considered? If the floor separates in a horizontal direction?

I don't know of any ASTM/ANSI requirements, but I do know there are ADA (American with Disabilities Act) specifications that set requirements for floor gaps.

28 CFR, Part 36, 4.5.4 Grating: Gaps no more than 1/2 inch (13mm) wide.
