Is there a good rule of thumb regarding the maximum allowable interference to press-fit a bearing? We are designing a lug assembly that involves an MS14103 self-lubricated spherical bearing press-fit into 7050 aluminum plate material.
I realize that interference could be so tight that it could deform the race and affect the operation of the bearing.
We are interested in a press-fit to lengthen the fatigue life of the lug detail.

The rule of thumb for bearings is to check with the manufacturer.
Depending on the class of bearing: ABET-1,-3,-5, or higher, the bearing tolerances will allow a varying amount of press fit. The bearing catalog should have an engineering/technical section that describes installation instructions, including recommended shaft or bore diameters for each bearing series.

I concur with swertel, manufacturers have their own recommended interferences for each bearing design. The deformation of the race is figured into this and is important for proper end play upon final assembly.
