Hi gents,

For a firewater main in current project the selected material is GRE. Due to the start of firewater pumps high surge pressures are developed.
In the interpretations section of ASME B31.3 it is stated that ASME B31.3 doesn't provide an allowance for surge pressure above the hydrostatic design stress for thermoplastic piping. I checked the code but nothing is mentioned for Glass fibre Reinforced Epoxy (GRE). Does somebody know if ASME or in anyother code an allowance is specified for GRE?

Thx

ISO 14692-3 defines a part factor addressing occasional loads, such as water hammer, to be used for setting the system design pressure.

Have you contacted the tech staff of THE GRE pipe vendor ?

I am sure that they have been asked this question before....

Consider posting on the "NFPA (fire code) Issues" forum..... or perhaps the Piping forum.....

I believe that you are in the wrong place
