Hi, everyone
May i know does it have any requirements for maximum width of support for continuous beam/slab? It doesn't make sense if the width of support for continuous beam/slab can be infinite long.

I don't think I'm understanding the question. Why would there be a limit on the width or length of a support under a beam? If the support is longer, in the direction of the span, then the span length is reduced. Depending on the stiffness of the beam relative to the bearing, it might not be considered as supported by the full length of the bearing. The support width (transverse to the span) would be limited only by the width of the beam or slab.

From engineering view point, the maximum width/size of a support is reached when it is no longer required for strength. An example is a column with loads that can be handled by another column half of its size, thus, a waste, if not required for architectural and/or other service concerns. To be more exact, there is no rigid requirements for, limits on, the maximum size of support in practice, it is left to be decided by engineering judgement and practical constraints.

It's a judgment call as far as I know but, beyond a bearing width of about [1.0 x D_beam], I'd start to think about alternate models of behavior.

Just to extend on kk point, you make also end up with bending in the support.
