Measure Dialog Box

Hi all. I'm running SW 2006, SP4.1 and have a problem with the measure tool. Up until a couple days ago things worked fine, the dialog box would pop up when I clicked on the little tape measure icon. Now for some reason I can't get the dialog box to open. I press the icon, the pointer turns into a ruler and I can make crude measurements, but I no longer can change options to "minimum distance" etc. I'm sure I must have accidently turned this off, but I'll be darned if I can figure out how to turn the dialog box back on (including doing several keyword searches here).
Any ideas ?? I'd appreciate any input.

In order of simplicity:-

Try updating to SP5.1 to see if that fixes things;
