Hello.
I'm looking for some help in determining the type of circuit I shoould use in measuring the time delay between the output of two opto sensors at differant times. I'm thinking of using a laching circuit. The output of the first opto sensor would be connected to the clk of a flip flop and the output of that flip flop would be connected to the clk of another flip flop. Now I can't think of what to do next. Please help.

How about having one signal start a counter, and the other signal stop the counter....

How much time do you expect to elapse between the two events (one opto sensor gives an output, THEN the other sensor gives an output)?

Thank you melon, I think I could take it from here. I greatly appreciate your help.

Very astute observation peebee!

or, rather than counting a clock, charge a cap, then read accumulated charge.

All of these techniques are pretty dependent on knowing what kind of delay we're measuring. Is that picoseconds or kilocenturies?

And of course what kind of accuracy is required.[upsidedown]
