I would like to know how to measure between two parts in an assembly normal to a given plane. The two surfaces on the two parts are parallel to each other.
thanks

So, you don't like the results when you just select the two surfaces....

How about using the plane to take a section through the assembly, and then measure the distance between the two parallel lines (or curves).

TheMan51,

In FSS (FreeStyle) you have the measure between tool where you can use the compass the set the direction.

You may find changing the selection from any geometry to any geometry infinte may get you what you want

Try to create an axis system with its xy plane being the plane you need. Than, in the "Measure Between" dialog box, check the "Other axis" option, and click on the created axis system. Make sure you have activated the "Components" display in the "Customize" dialog box. It will show you the real dimension and its components in xyz directions based on the desired axis system.

One thing you might consider is that many times, the distance between two parallel elements (lines, planes) will give you a "0" result , and something like "999" for the components. That means the elements are not really parallel (very small deviations), the result for two perfect parallel elements should show "0" for the angle. When I encounter this, I usually choose the "Picking Point" option for one of the elements.

Hope that helps...

Best regards,
Stely

picking point cannot be accurate
