We can not measure hole diameters when using E-Drawings to view native SolidWorks models. We can measure everything else just fine. The only solution we've found is to check "save edrawing data" in the save-as dialog box, but this doubles the file size in most cases. Any solutions?
EDrawings: 2004 4.0.0.614
SolidWorks: 2003 sp4.0

You shouldn't be using SW03 and Edrawing 04 together it's not recommended. you should use the same version for both. That might be some of your problem to start with.

The size didn't double for me. I have 204Kb file open I check marked that option and the file grew to 214KB.

I just tried in Edrawings SP3.0 Version number: 4.3.0.156 (This is the latest version available) and I can measure the holes just fine. You have to first save the edrawing file as a Edrawing file to get Measure to become avaiable.

I tried both a Cut-extrude hole and a HZ hole. No problems.

Try using the same version and same SP.

Edrawings 03 will not view native files without saving e-drawing data, which becomes a file size issue when you have several configurations. Increases of 2x are common with either 03 or 04. Edrawings 04 is superior in this respect however I believe a bug exists preventing the measuring of hole diameters. Remember, all other measure commands work fine.
It could be intentional as a means of selling software or a technical glitch, it's too early to tell. In any case our PDM uses 04 as the imbedded viewer so I can't change that anyway.
I'm just making sure I didn't overlook some setting or check box somewhere. This forum is great for that sort of thing. Our var is working on it too, I'll post the solution when/if I find it.

If your using SW03, then Edrawings 03 will view your Native files fine... at least they do here.

Of what a SW file or a Edrawing file?

I just tried it with both a cut-extruded hole and Hole wizard hole in Edrawing04 SP3.0 and it works fine. I picked the edge of the hole to measure with it what are picking? Have you tried to repair your Edrawings or reinstall it?

Out of Curiousity - Then why don't you switch over to SW04?

This is a cut and dry situation. If it doesn't work now then something is broken. It's not an option to be able to measure this or that. When all else fails reinstall Edrawings. It only takes a few mintues to do.

sdb999,

Is it possible the hole is skewed in the view you are trying to measure in?

Well it took a while but the answer is no. You can not measure a hole diameter using E-drawings 2004 while viewing a native SolidWorks file that does not have e-drawing data saved within. You can measure just about anything else though.
Our S/W support rep. (who valiantly took this one to the mountain top in search of a solution) submitted a RFE but doesn't expect any movement until 2005+.
