If I have a hollow cube modeled, is there a way to fill it in to create a solid body? Or, better yet, is there a way to select the 6 faces/surfaces and measure the volume enclosed by the cube's faces?

In the analysis menu there is Advanced mass properties -> Mass using curves and sheets that will do what you ask. However, the inputs need to be sheet bodies it will not allow you to pick surfaces of solid bodies. The 'extract face' command will give you sheet body copies of the faces you require. I assume the shape you are interested in is more complex than a cube, the 'region of faces' selection rule will probably come in handy.

Another option is to extract the faces you need, create surfaces to cap them off and sew the whole thing into a solid body. Then the usual measure body command can be used.

Thanks for the quick reply, that's exactly what I've been looking for. It works perfectly for what I'm trying to do.

Another question: is there a way to do a divide sheet/partition where the cut line doesn't completely divide the selected face. It's a little hard to explain, but I've attached a picture of what I'm trying to do. I thought about doing a subtract extrude but my part is a sheet, not a body, so it won't work.

That would result in what's known as a 'non-manifold' body and as such is not something which NX will allow to happen (this is by design, since 'non-manifold' bodies cannot exist in the physical world we therefore consider them as being invalid and we takes steps preventing them from being created, either accidentally or on purpose).

Hi mclark,

The better way to measure the volume inside your cube is:

extract body to keep the original
hide the original

delete face
select the 5 faces inside the extracted body
select 'all but selected' button in 'selection' toolbar
OK

The result is the 'inside' body

then measure it

Instead of starting a new thread, I decided to post another question on here. How do I get the sketches I created in modeling to show up in my drawing views when I'm drafting?

Hi,

First of all, did you try my suggestion for the volume ?

Then to answer your drafting question, we need to know if you use the master model approach or is your drawing in the same part ?
