Help!

Anyone know where I can find [formal] mechanical allowables for A360 and A380 Aluminum alloy die castings [QQ-A-591, AMS4290, AMS4291]??? This is driving me crazy! Please advise!!

Sorry... the AMS spec cited were for 360 & 380 aluminum castings... not A360 & A380 casting. Duhhhh.

Those are high-pressure die casting alloys, and usually specifications for those do not include mandatory mechanical property requirements. ASTM B85 has an appendix that shows the following, non-mandatory properties for separately cast test specimens:

Alloy, UTS, YS, El, Shear strength

360, 44 ksi (300 MPa), 25(170), 2.5, 28(190)
A360, 46(320), 24(170), 3.5, 26(180)
380, 46(320), 23(160), 2.5, 28(190)
A380, 47(320), 23(160), 3.5, 27(190)

As I am sure you already know, none of these alloys appear in MMPDS or ASMH.

TVP...

Thanks for the advice: for some reason, I hadn't spotted the allowables data in the ASTM B85.

These values correlate with skimpy data I found later in the day for separetly cast specimens.
