Hi,
What is the theory behind the coalescence of oil in oil/water mix? What causes the coalescer attracts the oil droplets ?

The main weakness with coalescers is particulates in the feedstream, so install a good size 2x100% particulate filter unit upstream of the coalescer to get the coalescer to work. Also remember that these coalescers are useless if the feedstream emulsion is stabilised by excessive dosing of corrosion inhibitors.
