I'm a mechanical engineer and am designing a mechanical component and per customer spec. have to use IBC2000 1621 for seismic consideration. I did the Fp calc and used the calculated Fp for lateral and longitudinal forces to design against. I did not do the 1617.1 "effects" calc. nor the 1605 combination calc. Should I have? If so, should the combined force be used rather than the 1621.1.4 Fp? What about shear and tipping? Where does IBC2000 address those issue?

Read the second to last paragraph in 1621.1.4. where it tells you to use Fp as the "Qe" in 1617.1.

1617.1 provides you with a definition of E, which is the seismic load effect that must be included in the load combinations of 1605.
