Membrane Stress of a Pressure Vessel?

Hi All,

I am trying to find out the maximum membrane stress based on corroded thickness for a vertical air receiver. Is the membrane stress based on the Hoop Stress or Axial Stress?

Both hoop stress and longitudinal stress due to pressure are membrane stresses.
