Anyone tell me why when I open a 375MB file it ends up at 1.6GB of memory usage in the windows task manager. because if I go higher than 1,68GB my program crashes for lack of memory. I am using a 2007 s/works in XP with 2.5GHz dual proccesor with 4 meg of ram.

No a few ribs but nothing serious. I am wondering if my drawing setting have changed and are effecting the size somehow because I have done bigger more complex parts that end up at only 90 meg

Crap, I forgot what I was going to say...

Does this happen only on the drawing, or with the part too? Can you open the file up on another computer and check the feature statistics? Maybe you have something, feature-wise, that's causing the problem.

Sorry when I say drawings I meant sld files, the problem I have now is that when I open this file I use 1.64GB of mem and it crashes at 1.68 (not sure why) so I can"t even get in there to check any feature statistics because it says there is not enough mem, I'm thinking I might try re loading s/w 2007 I have 2008 but not sure it would be any better??

Check out: thread559-155411

Enabling this setting might let you work with your model enough to figure out what is taking up all of the RAM. Also upgrading to a 64-bit OS and 64-bit version of SolidWorks would also help.

Reloading '07 isn't going to help. Is there someone else that you can have open the part? Can you post it here? Have you involved your VAR?
It's possible that the part itself is corrupt. When all is said and done, it may just be easier to rebuild it versus jumping through all these hoops.

Thanks for your input Jeff but meanwhile I loaded the 3 gig switch and it works like a hot dam now....... Still gotta figure out why the file is so big seems adding simple draft to the sides of some ribs added 20% to the rebuild and I can't for the life of me think why?? But I'm back in business so thank you all that took the time to respond I appreciate it very much.
