Hello Guys,

I was wondering whether you know good publication about influence of Mercury on materials in production fluid environment? Especially with level, range of mercury.

I have looked through the internet/forums, but there is lot of information about impact Mercury on health/environment. But little about effects on materials. Only one interesting publication which I have found was "Mercury in petroleum and Natural Gas" S.M. Williams and such link: but still unfortunately it is not enough for me. I heard about amalgamation of materials and Liquid embrittlement cracking - but I would like to understand mechanisms, levels of mercury when this happens etc

I need to write report if there would be harmful effects of Mercury in production fluid on SVXT an Tubing Hanger system: Level : 51ppb in the liquid phase and 29um/SCM in gaseous phase.

If you would have any titles, links etc I would much appreciate to share it ;)

Thanks in advance all.

Look up 'liquid metal embrittlement' and you will find lots of Hg papers.
Monel is very susceptible to LME from Hg at room temp.

I have seen a couple of kg of Hg drained from the bottom of a separator tank.

I wonder if the effect of amalgamation with metallic mercury has any relevance to how mercury ions in solution behave. I suspect that they are different because I not heard of mercury salts having such an effect.

The first thing that you need to know is what form the mercury takes in the system under study.

Thanks a lot for you help, all, Much appreciate. I will look into them.

I will try to learn what form of mercury is in the system..
