Any help with this issue would be grand. I'm working a job that requires assembly cuts (match drilled holes ect.) not to be modeled in the part. Instead we are to do a external copy geom to get a new part that is linked to the old one. However, when I do an external copy geom I lose the references for hole patterns, this makes assemblies later VERY tedious to say the least. Any ideas? Or is there a config option that will copy patterns as well?

alphaguru,

You can include datums with the Misc option in External Copy Geom feature to copy Datum Planes, Axes and other references from the original part to use for patterning.

Then you can also go to the original part and select the hole pattern and do a ctrl+c copy select window and pick the new model with the copy geom and use Paste Special to put the feature in the new part.

You may also want to look at Inheritance functionality if you have a license for that.

I would set up a Skeleton Model for all the features that are created upon assembly (match-drilled).
