The mereger is a long term deal that had to be coordinated with various customers. From my understanding Ideas V10 is out and UG NX V2 is also out. There will be a NX V3 next year and then the next release will see the merger complete. I would guess that will be mid-2005. I don't know if there will be an Ideas V11.
UG V18.4 and Ideas V9.1 could share files. UG can open a .xpk from Ideas directly.
"Wildfires are dangerous, hard to control, and economically catastrophic."
When you say Ideas is using it now, is that V10 because V9 is not? Granted you can export a Parasolid but there is no history.
Being a UG desiger I am just wondering what if any benefit there is to being trained in Ideas since it is going to be merged. Other then learning other techniques I am struggling to see the benefits.
I am pretty sure I-deas is NOT running a parasolid kernel.
It would be a huge kernel change.
I believe there are no plans to make I-deas native parasolid. The I-deas ---> UG merge should yield a ugnx product with parasolid kernel. Ug will pick up some of i-deas positive traits, and I-deas will die.
It is true we can export a parasolid/xpk file to ug, but it is not always perfect because it is a conversion
