I am trying to mesh a thick walled (with inner and outer radius) hollow tapered cylinder in Abaqus 6.13. But, I'm getting an error "The selected regions cannot be meshed automatically using the assigned element shapes. They must be either be partitioned, assigned a tet shape, or manually meshed using the Create bottom-up mesh tool". Can you help me with this? I tried the method mentioned in this thread
" but I don't have any idea of what to do in the second step. Thanks!

I tried applying tet mesh also. But it shows another error as in the image below.

Yeah, I have created offset 0 from XY and YZ planes. I'm trying to use cell partition using datum plane and it asked me to select the cell. I have the selected a cell and then it asked to select datum plane. I selected a datum plane and it says "The cell could not be partitioned. Try using another partition strategy." I'm new to abaqus. Can you help me with this partition issue? Thanks. And yes, the central axis of my part is along X axis.

In your first image there is a seam in the face of the pipe and the wall of the pipe which is likely causing the error. It is probably having issues creating a partition on this seam. Try using virtual topology first to remove these seams. I hope this helps.

Hey rstupplebeen. Thanks for the reply. I tried creating a cell with just XY plane as datum plane and the mesh has been created without any errors. However, there was a warning in the Message Area below as shown in the pic attached and I did a Mesh check. The results are shown in the message area with Analysis warnings. Can you help me knowing what these warnings are and how to get rid of these? Thank you!

Try creating another partition with the XZ plane (you may already have done this based on the image). Then you should be able to create a swept mesh along the X direction. In the mesh module > Assign Mesh Controls > Select the hole Rod> Hex Swept > Assign Sweep direction to line up with the X direction.

If that doesn't work feel free to post your model and I'll give it a look. I hope this helps.

Thanks rstupplebeen. I solved this a while ago. All I did was create a partition in XY plane. The part was also converging to a single point at one end. I changed the geometry there and I got the mesh working fine. Thanks for your help!
