Mesh Feature Help

Hey Guys,

I'm new at designing and using NX 6.0. I am currently building an intake valve for a plant, for a class project, and i saw there was a mesh feature. Would that be ideal to use for a screen, and if so how would i go about using that feature. Also if it would not, what are some suggestions that would help me out.

I suspect that you are not aware of how the term 'Mesh' is used in NX and what it generally refers to.

The most common and frequent use of the term 'Mesh' is in respect to creating FEM (Finite Element Models) which consists of a 'mesh' of 2D shell or 3D solid 'elements' which approximates geometric models for analysis purposes. The other frequent use of this term is when describing a type of Surface construction where the user selects a series of curves which form a 'mesh' which defines the shape of the surface in 2 directions.

Now in NEITHER case could these be seen as being a way of representing something like a 'wire mesh' object. Now you could create a surface and simply call it a 'wire mesh' (or 'screen') and just accept that that is what it represents, but it won't necessarily look like a 'wire mesh' or 'screen', although I could assign it a rendering texture which would give the appearance of a 'wire mesh', but that's about it.

Thanks alot, that helped. I went and talked to my Design Prof, and he told me the same thing. Now the new approach I am taking, is simply cutting out holes, and using the uniform/circular array tool, to make them even.

My new question I think would be, is that if I were to put this under flow testing an force testing, would it act like a screen, or give an indication of a screen present?
 
If the model is accurate, yes, but it may also make the analysis very complex since this would introduce a lot of extra geometry in terms of the number of edges which would increase the number of 'elements' when you do your final flow analysis.
