Hi,

We are gluing metal parts (small vales) together we are using Loctite 270, sometimes it is a thread and other times its a collar. The part are either machined or Metal injection moulded.

Has anyone else had any experiences in this and are we using the right glue? We would want one glue to do all.

Thank you
Wayne.

Without requirements how does one go about finding "one glue?"

Of course I can. I can do anything. I can do absolutely anything. I'm an expert!
There is a homework forum hosted by engineering.com:

Loctite 270 is suitable as a threadlocker, but may not be suitable for joining a collar. What does that geometry look like? If the gap is too large, or the area exposed to air/oxygen is too large, then it won't cure correctly.

I bet the henkel/Loctite tech support line would have a useful answer, if provided with more complete technical details about the applications.

Wayne,

loctite usually has reps you can talk to about this kind of thing - just be a bit careful they're selling you what you need not just what they want to sell you i.e they may push their latest wizz bang cyanoacrylate when some 30 year old technology epoxy is a better fit...

What environment do the parts go into (temp, humidity, chemicals, light exposure...)

What geometry as CoryPad mentions, also what working time you need, what curing time & conditions you want/need, what surface prep you do/can do to your parts, what metals/coatings (some threadlock etc. work better on 'active metals' and don't work as well on passive ones)...

Posting guidelines faq731-376 (probably not aimed specifically at you)
What is Engineering anyway: faq1088-1484

Loctite 270 is formulated to work as a single component anaerobic adhesive for securing screw threads. The cured adhesive bond only has moderate shear strength, but it also works by increasing the static friction at the screw thread surface contacts. Anaerobic adhesives such as Loctite 270 are very sensitive to the fit between mating parts and also to any contamination on the mating surfaces.
