Metal plate material 2

Hi,
I need to make a metal plate at the size of 76mm*34mm. it will have around 70KG on it (the stress source is about a 3cm circle. the metal piece has 2 supports 42 mm apart(the load is in the middle of them).
I need to choose the metal type and thickness. I would like it to be as cheap of metal as possible and as thin as possible (hopefully a common metal)

I'm a chemist so I'm not very proficient in the matter.

Assuming this is a one-off application where a failure does not cause a hazard, I would use 1/4" thick steel or 304 s/s and move on with life.

Thinner will not cost less because the material cost becomes insignificant relative to processing costs. If you need to minimize weight or deal with special considerations, let a mechanical engineer finalize the design.

does it need to be stainless? less costly if mild steel. Load is small, and even ASTM A36 is adequate for the loading. If it needs a coating to protect it or anything in contact with it, stainless 304 may be a excellent choice.
