Metal Sheet Pile with H-beam Reinforcement

I am looking for material properties for metal sheet piles with H-Beam reinforcement. I need a sheet pile with a section modulus that exceeds 251 in^3/ft. I have seen numerous uses of a hat-shaped sheet pile with H-beam reinforcement; however, I have been unable to find any section properties for this combination of piling.

This cantilever retaining wall sits 7'-6" from the center line of a railroad track, with an excavation depth of 14 feet. High water table levels and an E80 cooper live load with diesel impact is placing large lateral pressures on the wall.

Never seen that product. Try contacting sheet piling producers. Or calculate the transformed section properties as you would for any built up shape and size the welds accordingly.
 
Deflection for a 14' high cantilevered sheet pile wall with nearby E80 loading would probably be greater than the RR allows unless you tiedback the sheets or used super sized sheets.
It seems to me that you may need to use tieback anchors and regular sheet piling. If you can't do that, you should check with Skyline Steel or L.B. Foster about availability of their heavy duty combination sheet pile walls. Cost and availability for heavy duty combination sheet piling may make tiedback regular sheet piling an attractive alternate. You may need specially fabricated $$$$$$$$$$ sheeting made from interlocking pipe piles and or wide flange beams. Good luck.

 
None of the railroads that I've worked with will allow cantilevered walls that close to the tracks. You will need to use a braced wall (either internally or with tiebacks). Also, BNSF and UPRR have a specific method to be used to design the support system.

I greatly appreciate your time and considerations. The posts were all great.

I also failed to note this rail line is a Unit Train/Loop Track adjacent to one of BNSF main line.

After much consideration, the owners of the property with rights to the loop track decided to shut down operations during construction (2-3 weeks).

You are lucky. Shutdowns aren't granted very often.



 
What you are trying to do is a combi wall where you have an alternance of 2 or 3 sheetpiles and either a sheetpile welded to a H profile or a steel tube or a caisson made of 2 sheetpiles.
You should contact Arcelormittal or visit their website to get the characteristics of these special sections. They might even do a prelim design for you.
