Method for Perfect but Fast Measurement of Energy Consumption

Hi All,

Does anyone of you know perhaps any books or articles/resources on topic measuring (not reducing but measuring!) energy consumption for produced refrigerators? Everything I find online is only for client's side - methods how to profit and save money with reducing (after measuring) energy consumption of refrigerators - lower amount on utility bill to be paid. But what I need is different purpose - fast but accurate method how to measure energy consumption based on which I could prevent dispatching refrigerators that use too much energy (above maximum allowed limit) to the clients. It would be great if having listed also which parts consume what (e.g. temperature, power, lighting,...). Anyone knows any useful ebook on that topic?

Would be appreciated.

"Perfect" is the word that caught my attention. Even the scale the NIST uses to confirm the density of mass standards has an error band. I can't think of anything less dynamic than weighing lumps of metallic materials. Measuring power input seems like it might have a noticeable error band as well. Perfect might be difficult.

"Knowledge" is only found through the accumulation and analysis of data.
The plural of anecdote is not "data"

Then, shop for an off-the-shelf power meter. There are tons, and you can learn a lot from their data sheets.

Disclosure: I work as a consultant for Kele, Inc. and was employed there for many years. Products are available from many suppliers, so feel free to shop. Some sources of fixed-in-place meters are shown. Any could be used as a bench test meter to give instantaneous power and accumulated energy use.




Any of those would fulfill your purposes I think. If you'd rather have a bench or portable power meter, there are many to choose from as well.

Thank you for replies but I think I wasn't understandable with what I am actually asking so I will ask again: Noone of you mentioned refrigerators. I currently work only on this. I mentioned that I need books/resources where are well explained parameters (power, etc) and components (sealing on the door, etc) that are anyhow (even if spent negligible amount of energy) involved in energy consumption of refrigerator. There are sooo many parameters, not just electricity. Based on what I am searching for, I would design the equations for calculating allowed limits (maximum allowed one for energy consumption) as well as try to create new method of measuring consumed energy (only for refrigerators) which won't waste so much time as current method does.

DrWeig the following question is asked on assumption that you also have experiences (from quality/measurings aspect) in other refrigerator's parameters and not just electricity: You said you work as consultant. Do you offer any such services, can be paid also, online also via email/skype? If I could I would send you on email brief description of what it is all about.

Unfortunately, my current consultant contract does not permit me to help you other than in this forum. Thank you for the offer, though. In general, eng-tips is not a place to solicit a consultant. Some members have a link within their signatures that may allow you to find them outside of eng-tips. Those who don't usually prefer to remain anonymous.

It sounds like you are interested in all aspects of the refrigerator. Most of what you want to evaluate is heat transfer and the refrigeration cycle. I suggest that you repost in the thermodynamics and heat transfer forum, and red flag this one for deletion. You will still be able to get tips on measurement there as well.
