Currenly reviewing an event for a small Microgrid system. Need some insight on the following scenario:

1. When the system became islanded, the diesel was started to provide aux power to start other engines.
2. Lead engineer #1 was started. (5MVA)
3. Then #2 and #3 were started to take loads. (2.5MVA each)

The issue was #2 and #3 would trip off under the scenaro. The geovenor setting has been thoroughly reviewed and appeared to be OK. Questions come to the Generator Relay. What protective elelment might cause the tripping? Unfortunately the trip report was not available.

Appreciate any comments.

Governor settings:
Droop and speed:
Droop for a standby set is 3%.
Droop for a grid connected set is 5%.
Back in the day, the breaker on an incoming set was always closed when the synchro-scope needle was moving slowly clockwise.
If the needle was moving counter-clockwise you would get a reverse power trip.
If the meter was moving too fast clockwise you may get an over current trip.
If this is a new or recently changed installation there may be a wiring fault.
I have seen that also.
How do you synchronize?
Check the settings on an automatic synchronizer and/or a sync check relay.

Hi Bill, what you said; I was hoping to prompt the OP to start providing some of this information...
