Microsoft to consider adding Python to Excel 1

Microsoft sent me a survey about why I thought it would be a good idea, what I use Python for etc. It went to everyone who had ticked "Python as an Excel scripting language" at their user-voice site:

https://excel.uservoice.com/forums/304921-excel-for-windows-desktop-application/suggestions/10549005-python-as-an-excel-scripting-language?

The survey was full of references to data science, finance, marketing, etc, but did not use the word "engineer" once.

It seems they are taking the Python script idea seriously, and even if it doesn't happen, if they get the message that there are quite a lot of people out there who use Excel with numbers without a $ on the front, it will be a good thing.

So the more engineers who do the survey the better. Just make sure you tick the "other" box and enter engineer/engineering wherever appropriate.

Thanks IDS. I have cast my vote for Python. I also asked them to remember to include a debugger to make troubleshooting easier.

I'd wait until they release Anaconda before making a decision.

Note that includes R as well as Python. Very interesting, that makes Minitab look a bit redundant.

Cheers
