Hello everyone, newbee to the forum and to Microstation here.

I am converting some dgn files to dwg files using V8. In the options dialogue I have “Create single block for duplicate cells” checked (on) but when I open the drawings in Cad, many of the cells have been renamed as though I had this option turned off. Not all of the cells/blocks are renamed though.

For example, I have a cell named “sign” and another named “pole”. There are multiple instances of each of these cells in my dgn file. When I convert the file to dwg and open it in Cad I will have (for example) 6 instances of a block named “sign”, one instance of “sign_1”, one instance of “sign_2”, one instance of “sign_3” etc. until I have a hundred or more uniquely named blocks. In that same drawing however, I’ll have a single block named “pole” with a hundred instances of it (as it should be).

This is a massive project with miles of photogrammetric & field topography combined so you can imagine the Cad file size when it has several hundred uniquely named blocks rather than a couple dozen.

Any ideas?
