Microwave ovens

Does anyone out there know much about microwave ovens?

I have an oven and the front glass window is broken. Is this glass treated to deflect some of the radiation, or does the steel mesh screen do all the work in preventing the radiation from escaping?

I realise that plain glass does not deflect microwaves.

Only the screen mesh stops the microwave energy (as long as it's not cracked), glass won't do much, if the glass is cracked, that's probably ok. Tape it up. The seal on the door is a non contact seal to keep the energy in. They make the door thicknesses 1/4 wavelength at the microwave oven operating frequency so that it can have a slight opening, 10-20 mils and still provide safe sealing.
