Hi, All

At the moment my employer is about to migrate from V18 to NX4 and i have a question that i would appreciate being answered. While most of our office is using 3D there are a few that work on machines that have yet to be updated to 3D assemblies and therfore spend most of there time using the 2D system for drawing and drafting.

Now this leads to my question, i'm aware of the majority of the changes from the two version on the 3D side but how much has change from V18 2D to NX4 2D? Are these guys going to see a major difference or is the change quite subtle.

Many thanks in advance.

The change between V18 and NX4 is anything but subtle. Many of the promised features in NX4 won't be fully implemented without several updates from UGS. Usability (at least for those familiar with UG) is not as good as previous versions. I would think twice about going to NX4 at this time, and go to NX3. While not perfect, NX3 has had a little time to mature, and will give you an idea of where NX is headed.

I'd have to agree with Eric....go to NX3. NX4 has too many major issues at the moment.

I agree with the above. If possible go to UGNX3 first. More patches have been created for the version so it will run better than the newly released version 4.

How do your companies manage training and best methods for your CAD work. We currently have no one person in charge of best practice methods at all.

When is NX4 due? It's still in beta right?

Most places I have worked used a committee of sorts to establish best practices. Members were power users and IT professionals. Training was on an "as needed" basis, and requests for additional training were generally honored.
Now I am the only UG user at this company. Their best practices manual was based on SolidWorks, so I have the freedom to create my own, and it is an on-going process based on the experiences I have had with previous employers. With the growth of the company, training is taking on more importance, and I will be taking advantage of that.

Is that the beta or the first release. Just wondering cause our IT dept says they haven't received the disks yet.

Thanks, wonder if I can talk IT into downloading for early testing/validation or if they are going to wait til the CDs.
