Anybody heard of this surface finishing process? Supposedly is some sort of high velocity slurry blasting used for microfinishing the surface of highly stressed components, such as valve springs. Not only did I just hear of it, but apparenly am about to receive a failed valve spring treated with this process.

I remember the "Micronite" filters on Kent cigarettes when I smoked back in the '60's...what do the do? Blast the springs with old cig filters?

In reality, I use whatever the camshaft mfgr specifies and, to date, have had few valve spring failures. Yes, I have seen all sort of 'additives' 'special' processes, cryo this, heat treat that...It's pretty easy to get wrapped up in all these ideas. Some are, no doubt, pretty good...most are 'snake oil'...ALL are expensive. Caveat emptor!

Thanks, Rod. Between the time that elapsed between my post and your response, I received the spring. It was a standard spring fatigue failure, I.D. initiation. The Mikronite process imparted a polished finish to the spring O.D. but didn't touch the I.D. As this spring was shot peened, the Mikronite process would have no beneficial effect.
