I'd like to know if its possible to manufacture round (circular-shaped) part in UG using only milling tools (look at referece pictures in the attachment). I tried to do it by using CAVITY_MILL but had problems with mill orientation. UG orients mill along
Z axis, but I need it to be oriented along X axis (perpendicular to Z). How can I change
orientation of the mill axis? or maybe I should use another metod to do this.

You need to use VARIABLE CONTOUR method - with SURFACE AREA as your drive .
You can either use the model OD surface for drive or create plain cylinders of the area you want to machine.

PROJECTION VECTOR set to TOWARD LINE (machining OD)and pick centreline of component (2 points option)

TOOL AXIS set to NORMAL TO PART
(if its a plain diameter that you want to machine)

Sasha1, your explanation help me a lot.
Jaydenn, greate example!
Thanks.
I have another question :
How should I define strategy(projection) for millin not in circular or spiral(helix) way but in linear move along profile than rotate to some angle than another move and so on.
Look at attached picture for better understanding...

If you take a look at the example I gave to you, you only need to change a few simple parameters.

Choose the "drive method" parameters.
In this window, you can choose "cut direction". Press this button and you will see a variety of arrows show up on the screen. Click one that best represents the direction you mant the tool to go.

Also, in "drive settings", choose the pattern as parallel lines, and choose the cut type you like.

Good luck!

Jaydenn, Thanks.

When I work with your example all ok, but can you please explain the sequence of operations which I should do to obtain the same result with my part.

I do follow
1. Load my part and Start-> Manufacturing, select "muli-axis" as "Machining Environment"
2. Set tool and switch to "Operation Navigator - Geometry"
3. Create new operation "VARIABLE_CONTOUR" (see screenshot for parameter in attachment)
4. After pree "Ok" I have menu where I can select "Geometry", "Drive Metod" ect.
5. Select part body as "Specify Part"
6. Then, after selecting "Contour Profile" in combobox "Metod" a have "Contour Profile Drive Metod"! NOT "Surface Area Drive Metod" as in your example. How I can change it? Or maybe I do something wrong?

I don't think you did anything wrong...
You may not have the correct licensing available for all the options.

Your company may not have purchased all the components.

Check your license options;
START>UGS NX 5*>NX LICENSING TOOL>LICENSING TOOL
*your NX version may be different...

Also, if you have an unused "ADV MACH" bundle, you should add it.

this is a list of what components I am running.

Bundle:
NX13420N - "NX Mach 3 - Adv Mach"

Each component adds a function to NX. If you don't have those on your license file...You can't use them.

I think I do something wrong becase I only start work with UG.

I've just checked all bundles and found That I have all functions as you do exept "gmc", "ug_library_access".

Also I didn't find and NX13420N - "NX Mach 3 - Adv Mach", but I found NX14400N - "NX Mach 4 Max Mach" and had added it, but It didn't help.

Also, I want admit that your example work pefectly, so if I didn't have some license it wouldn't work too?
