Can anyone help?? I have a short acetal shaft that needs a slot 6mm deep & 6mm dia milling around curcumference as a spiral (cam following)The angle of the helix may vary.
I have read the replies to snubengr dated 2 Aug 04, but feel the replies were not quite detailed enough.
I have used the coil command but this does not work for my application. Have also read the online tutorial, no joy, losing the will to live....Help!!

The emboss feature would be best for this...I think.

Basically, all you need to do is draw the shaft.

Then produce a work plane...just off the circumference of the shaft.

Next draw the groove as a sketch...specifying the groove width, the length and then the angle in of the groove in relation to the shaft.

Finish the sketch...select emboss...specify the depth of the groove and face...bingo!

You should now have a parametric groove in the shaft...

I have just tried it...works a treat.

Cheers Hydromech, didn't think of using the emboss feature.
