Min thickness for a weld?

Is there a minimum base material thickness for a CJP groove weld? (or really for any weld?) Basically, I am trying to determine whether two pipe sections can be welded together if one of them has 16 gauge steel....

I am sure AWS will have your spec - but from personal experience, welding 16 ga is a bit difficult!!

With the appropriate equipment, the weld described can be made. We have qualified procedures (for use in a construction environment) down to .030". And one can make welds in thinner materials WITH THE RIGHT EQUIPMENT!

Yea. It's called JB Weld.

.03" and less? Wow! I've always limited it to about .07" or one pass of a 1/16" weld. I'll have to take your word for it.

I bet all the others are only considering arc type welding, if you include electron, laser and diffusion bonding (which is solid state welding) you could join almost anything.

You need the proper equipment and properly trained people for any task.
