Miniature Scissor Lift 2

Dear all,

I need to design a miniature electric scissor lift. Generally, it must be no larger than about 30 mm X 20 mm and a extended height of 10 mm. Minimum height is of a high importance and must be equal or less than (if possible) 5 mm. This lift must fold. Therefore, a screw actuator is needed.
My question, is it possible to find a linear actuator miniature enough to fit into the mechanism. Moreover, how could I calculate the diameter of scissor arms that can support predetermined force (100 N) on the upper plate when the scissor lift is expanded.

Thank you in advance,
Shaban

First of all, thank you for your replies.

EdDanzer, the change of piezoelectric materials as a response of the applied voltage is too small - of the order 10e-3 mm. As I told before, the change must be between 5 and 10 mm.

DustinScheu, I'm not asking about the equations that control the scissor mechanism, I'm asking about the possibility to find an actuator that could provide a relatively high force with small dimensions.

Thank you.

Why not use hydraulics? You haven't specified the system well enough to really eliminate any particular design, but you seem to be asking for very high forces from very small parts.

Plus needless to say if I could design such a thing I'd be off designing artificial hands and the like.

Hi GregLocock,

Exactly, that's all I need to know. Is there any miniature linear actuator that could fit in the aforementioned scissor mechanism and could provide such a force?

Thank you Greg but could you please, provide me with more details.
