Hi,
I am looking for a solution in NX5 to obtain the minimum and maximum thickness from a solid body ?
Thanks in advance

Hi John,
I tried Molded part validation method to analyse the thickness, it works fine but one problem is it is not showing the colour spectrum on right side of the numbers display(as shown in jpeg). I think some preference may be missing that I could not manage to rectify that, please help.
The attached file shows the image shows without the colour column.

What version are you running? I tested this using NX 5.0.6.3 and it's working fine. Be sure to check all of the settings on the 'Options' tab. All you need to do is change an option and hit the 'Apply' button and you will see the effect of the option change immediately.

It could be something to do with your graphics set up, but I have never had any problems with it.

Thanks for your responses,
Hudson is right, I manage to get the solution by removing the backface culling under preferences->Visualization performance.

Hi John,
Thanks for your answer, but we don't have this module.
Any other solution with grip... to get only the thickness ?
Regards
Didier

If you're creating models of molded parts then I suggest that you purchase the module. After all, if YOU need this capability OUR people have already done the work to provide YOU with a solution. All you have to do is purchase it.

Hi John
It seems that this module give only the average thickness and the maximum thickness. But what about the minimum thickness ?

Didier

Technically, unless you're measuring a hollow body with no openings, the minimum 'thickness' will generally be ZERO, particularly if there are any sharp edges.

If you're really hung up on finding the exact point of minimum thickness I guess you could extract the exterior and interior regions that you wish to check and then perform a simple distance measurement between the two bodies. Personally I wouldn't go for that I'd use the Molded part validation (if available) and then going by the shading I'd just go back and perform a few face to face distance checks in the closer areas.
