Minimum Base Metal Range

Hi All,

I have a PQR as follows:
Base metal thickness: 20mm
GTAW deposit: 6mm
SMAW deposit: 14mm

if i write a WPS for GTAW what base metal thickness do i use and WHY?​

You could use 40mm, but this might be a bit confusing, as you are only allowed 12mm of weld metal thickness. You could limit it to 12mm. 12mm is usually plenty thick for a GTAW procedure. You could always use QW-200.4 if a thicker base metal needs to be welded.
