Hi there,

first, apologies if this has been answered in a different thread; I have found similar topics but could not find the exact answer I am looking for.

My question is:

- Is there a minimum embedment depth of the pile rebar (independent/additional to the embedment of the pile itself) into the pile cap? Being the pile system designed for an uplift moment.

I know this can be worked out with a strut and tie model, but I am replying technical queries of an existing design that has very poor and little calculations, hence a guidance about this figure without producing calculations would be helpful.

Would the anchorage length requirements in Eurocode 2 apply?

Thank you.

Recommended for you

1) Embedding the rebar by a development length would be a great start.

2) Embedding the rebar to the far side of the pile cap might also be advisable.

Both of those recommendations may be non-conservative, it's difficult to day without knowing the particulars of your situation.

3) I guess that one conservative approach would be to treat the connection as an anchorage problem rather than a reinforced concrete problem and use those methods to try to mobilize the yield strength of your pile rebar (assuming that to be properly designed). This is a pretty big ask though.
