minimum temperature rating requirement

Is there any code section which specifies the minimum temperature requirement for outdoor electrical equipment? Can I install an equipment rated for minus 20 degree C in a place where general ambient cold temperature in winter is minus 40 deg C?

Hi teke,

In general, the answer is no for your second question. If not rated for -40, don't install in -40.

There are exeptions.

The general requirement that the equipment be listed is the limiting factor in my opinion. By installing in an environment below what the manufacturer says, the listing is violated.

What sort of equipment is it, what voltage(s) hook to it, and where in the world are you? Tell us those and you might get more definitive answers.

Cable may not be installed at temperatures below its rated temperature but once installed it may be used as long as it is not moved at colder temperatures.
Instrumentation devices may malfunction in cold weather. Thermocouple instruments are compensated down to their rated temperature and the indicated temperature will generally be off by the same amount as the degrees below the minimum compensated temperature.
Mechanical devices may malfunction in cold weather.
