Hi all

I'm trying to mirror a sub assembly, but not all the assembly successfully mirrors, a few thing don't get sent over such as mates and bolts. The orginal sub assembly works fine, but the new once doesn't.

Just to give you some background on the sub assembly. The assembly comes from a company that went bankrupt, and my MD bought their SWx parts library off them. There's one problem though, my boss want me to use this sub assembly that has a few missing parts and mates (not sure what parts are missing).

How can I resolve this problem?

thanks

iwonafish,

My experience with SW2007 is that the parts mirror, but not the assembly constraints.

What does your boss think he is saving by having you mirror this stuff?

drawoh,

The assembly is quite complex, so my boss thinks it will be quicker to mirror it rather than design a new one.

I actually mirrored the assembly today, it took a while to get everything oriented into the correct position, but it's now working.

iwonafish,

How familiar is your boss with SolidWorks? My experience is that a very complex assembly can be re-done from scratch in hours rather than days.

I agree with drawoh. I would create mirror components of those that are true mirrors and generate the mirrored assembly from scratch. That way you know it is clean.

Pretty good with SolidWorks

drawoh,

My boss thinks SolidWorks is the same as Autocad! He's never used Solidworks, and certainly doesn't understand 3D CAD at all. But he keeps saying he wants me to do it his way. I've only been with this company a couple of months, so I don't want to get fired.
This is their first seat with SolidWorks, and their first go at 3D.
One thing they have done which is quite good news, they have taken my advice and bought me a quadro fx5500, I get it installed next week. :)

Hi, iwonafish:

Mirrored assemblies do not exist in real world. They only exist in virtual world.

There is no such design intent of mirroring an assembly.

Best regards,

Alex
