I have V4 files that i have migrated to V5. The migration process from V4 to V5 generates a couple part/product/drawing files for a single V4 file. I take the product files that are generated for all V4 files and assemble them into a new Product file. The whole part that I am creating from these files has two "legs", mirror images of one another, that I only have the Left hand leg for. Now all I need to do is "symmetry", right? Can anyone tell me why the "assembly features" toolbar(where symmetry is located) is shaded out. I am in the main directory in the tree. Is there another command like mirror that will let me do the same thing? I have CATIA MD2 V5R15 SP1, in Assembly design workbench, and I am working with 3D models from V4.

Is your product Saved? Are you using VPM or LCA? I believe that the Assembly Features toolbar requires that all of your documents be saved prior to using it (the symmetry function is going to actually create new files).

None of the Assembly Features works correctly with VPM, so at R13 they locked it out.

What is VPM and LCA? I feel stupid asking this question, but How do you use CATIA's help to find more about VPM and LCA?

I have been trying LCA. when I have tried to connect to vpm it asks for a Server/User/Password, none of which I have. In the LCA toolbar, I set PDM Props to any choice(file,VPM1,Enovia5), select what I want to set and hit okay. The option to symmetry is now available. Go thru steps of "Symmetry" and I get Number of new components=1,number of new instances=0 and Number of products=1. The unmirrored part is still showing. In the tree, there is symmetry of the unmirrored part. There is a nut that appears to be a solid. There is a new set of planes but no mirrored part, at least not the part that is needed. One thing though, the part that I am trying to mirror shows up in the description in the tree as a Non solid. might that have something to do for the mirrored image not being seen?

VPM and LCA are Dassault's Database/PDM/ whatever you want to call them. VPM is the V4 Version (although it will handel V5 Documents) and LCA is the V5 Version (although it will handle V4 Documents). They are both much more than just a data repository for you CATIA data, they maintain information about your multi-model links, component positions, where used, Engineering BOM, etc.

If you don't know what VPM or LCA are, it's a pretty good bet that it is not installed on your system, or at least configured for your use.

What did you det your PDM Properties to? Also, what options did you select when you went thru the Symmetry panel? I'm not very familiar with Assembly Symmetry, but I know that there are others out here that might be better able to help with this. Anyone?

PDM Props
Doc. Name= default, shaded out
Doc Origin = File, Shaded out
Destination PDMI = File, I have picked all three before
Storage Mode = Publications exposed checked
App Container = saved unchecked
Doc not kept = structure exposed unchecked, shaded out

Assembly symmetry wizard
Select plane=ZX
Selected Item

Select symmetry type for component=mirror, new component
YZ plane is checked but shaded out
Geometry to be mirrored in new part:

both above are shaded out and unchecked
Keep link in position/Keep link with geometry both checked/not shaded out
