I have read all the past threads about mirror/symmetry. I have also read the documentation but I am still missing one key point, i guess. I am trying to make the opposite of an existing assy (has a sub assy including parts that don't require to be mirrored) which is going to have a new part number for the main assy and its sub assy.

I tried using Assy symmetry, but i can't figure out how to exclude the symmetry of some common parts that i don't want the symmetry of, but just the want them to be positioned to newly mirrored part. Also i tried using mirror function in the part module using New from, then doing so, I can't make the original part go away, even hiding it. Please help

You can deactivate the symmetrical parts.

Which release are you using? There were some major improvements made to the Assembly Symmetry feature in R15 (I think it was R15, maybe R14?)

Let me tell you more about my approach here.

First I tried using New from the existing assy, then I renamed just the top most level. Then I started using symmetry, but then I start to notice that I lose the constraint geometry previously made on a part of existing assy. Hide/show works here though.

So, I went back to New from one part at a time, but now once I mirror the part, I can't seem to get rid of original part. If i deactivate the original part here and make the original part go hide, the mirrored component hides too.

gsejrmech:

If you set in tools - options -infrastructre - part infrastructre - (activate: restrict external selection with links to pubished items.)

This will allow you to create assy symmetry on only the parts you published all other parts will not be created.
