I want to perform modal analysis of a curved part in abaqus. can anybody help me what kind of mesh i should generate for this? and the methodology for modal analysis

I don't know what mesh you should use, but if throught the modal analysis you want to get the mode shapes and its natural frequencies, you can go to the "STEP" module, and after defining the intial conditions (the boundary conditions), create a new step, choosing the option "linear perturbation" and then "frequency". You will be able to visualize the animation of the mode shapes in "Results".

Just to add to that, the following input should provide you with the first 16 modes, if you are using an input file analysis method. As Dominvs says, difficult to specify the mesh withoutn knwoing more, but it should be suitable for the geometry. The documentation goes through meshing and element selection in great detail if you're looking for more info.

Boundary conditions/loads etc should be run in previous steps.

*STEP, PERTURBATION
Step 6 - Frequency extraction of the first 16 modes
*FREQUENCY

Hi Everyone!

I need to perform a modal analysis on Abaqus of a pre-stressed beam. The tensile load is applied on one of its ends, in the axial direction, and the opposite end is fully constrained. Then, considering the pre-tensioned state, a modal analysis has to be performed. Has anyone here been through to a similar situation? If so, please help me.

Thanks in advance!
