Need assistance in modeling a radial cut in which the part is stationary and the cutter moves in the X,Y,Z directions. I have tried lofting and sweeping cuts which both work, but the side walls are not straight. See example.

Using SW08, have you tried to sweep-cut a solid body? Dig a bit deeper into the SW Help files for this capability.

Have you read faq731-376 to make the best use of these Forums?

You could also create a solid form of the slot and use the Combine function to create the actual slot.

Try this. done in 2007.

There were other ways to do it, but i find when using the loft function, its best to increase the number of instances, and keep it simple. You will see that I patterend your shape through the 10.97 degrees from profile to profle, on 20 mil spacing. Then when doing the loft, i did the sides of the shape first, and then did the radius edge and used the sides as guide curves. That way there is very nice and exact geometry. Then i did an extrude up to the surface, and used it in a subtract. You can pattern this body all the way around your wheel and use all the bodies to do a subtract.

There are many ways to skin this cat. I did it a few quicker ways, but found that i liked the results of this way the best.

If it's a flat-bottom cylindrical cutter, you can use a sweep to generate the bottom face cut from the path, using the "keep normal constant" option for the sweep section orientation. Then create extruded surfaces for the sides of the cut. Knit; cut.
