Hello everyone

For a canal improvement project, we are converting 3 kilometers of open channel into a multi-cell box culvert. We are using SWMM to model the secondary drainage network, the box culvert, and the open channel. Because of SWMM's Courant condition, there is a minimum conduit length. Since there are sections such as transition structures that I would like to examine closely, which would require short lengths between nodes, I am tempted to use HEC-Ras. However, I don't think HEC-Ras can handle such a long culvert, nor do I think using the 'lid' option with divided flow to represent a multi-cell closed conduit would fare much better. According to SWMM simulations for a 5 year design storm, this box culvert is surcharged for almost 2 hours with a max pressure head of 0.71 m. This might be too much to ask of HEC-Ras.

Any advice?

Thanks Nick
