Dear All,

I am trying to replicate results of the following paper. This paper is about equivalent plate model of aircraft wing.

I have developed Matlab code and now I want to verify my results with results from MSC Nastran. The authors of the paper suggest that skin should be modeled using CQUAD4 elements (this can be done by using SHELL properties in Patran), spar and rib caps can be modeled using CBAR (this can be done by using Action/Object/Type: Create/1D/Beam and then selecting General Section / Standard formulation in Patran). Also, to model spar and rib webs, the authors suggest to use CSHEAR.

To model spar and rib webs, I select Shear Panel from 2D Properties in Patran and then I compute natural frequencies and mode shape using Sol103, however, the resulting mode shapes do not make sense. For example, in one of the mode shape, the skins intersect each other.

Questions:
What should be the value of F1 and F2 in Shear Panel properties?
How many CSHEAR elements should I use for modeling webs?

I have attached a bdf file in which a spar is modeled. Is it correct?

Regards,
Ali Baig
