My senior design project consists of experimenting with a physical hammer swing, that we built, that impacts a aluminum plate and taking this acceleration data and developing a Shock Response Spectrum that mimics an actual pyrotechnic shock example. We are new to Abaqus and FEA in general and I have built a rough model, at first I built just the plate and had the hammer tip impact it with an initial velocity from Creo Simulate. I have now built the frame and swing arm of the model in Abaqus. However, im having trouble with the mechanism of the joint. I have made a connector section with a revolute joint with an avaliable CORM-UR1 which is the x-axis and this is the rotation I want. I then assigned the connector to the section I want by defining a line at the axis of rotation of my joint. When trying to run a job an error node comes up saying rotary inertia needs to be defined for the small node at the center of the joint, so I have defined a point inertia with an arbitrary number of 1. Im confused because the connector assignment should have restricted to only UR1 DOF but the results of my simulation just have the swing arm fall of the joint under gravity. So what is the best way to create this joint? I have attached my model, im not sure it can be opened since its on the academic version. Thanks for the help.
