Hi Everyone,

I am trying to model the transverse shear fracture within each ply of a composite ply. I am wondering if Abaqus has any built-in failure criteria that I can use to do this because the default Hashin damage criteria only accounts for in-plane ply failure. If not, then what can I do to add this failure mode to my model? Thank you.

To clarify my question, I have implemented the Hashin failure criteria in Abaqus/Explicit to modeling failure of orthotropic materials. However, the criteria only account for in-plane failures (i.e. tension, compression, and shear) in the principle 1 and 2 directions. Is there a way to include failures in the out-of-plane directions as well? I would like to model the out-of-plane shear failure (for example, in direction 13) of an orthotropic material. Is this possible in Abaqus without writing my own user subroutines? Thank you very much.
